The vehicle was seized in connection with a hit-run that happened in Stamford on Tuesday, Nov. 21 around 6:15 a.m. on West Main Street (Route 1) near Alvord Lane, Stamford Police said.

At the time of the incident, Stamford resident Marie Jean-Charles, age 74, had been crossing West Main Street from north to south when she was hit in the eastbound travel lanes by a speeding car. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.

The suspect vehicle did not stop after the crash and continued driving east. It sustained heavy damage to its front windshield.

Hours after the crash, the Stamford Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad was tipped off about the possible suspect vehicle by other police sources. Officers then responded to the address connected with the vehicle and seized it after obtaining a search warrant, police said.

The department thanked Stamford residents for their help in finding the car.

"Stamford Police CARS would like to thank the many citizens of Stamford that called us and helped us identify what year, make, and model of the vehicle that we were looking for regarding this collision, that information helped us develop a suspect vehicle," the department said in a statement.

Authorities have not yet announced if a suspect has been charged in connection with the crash. The investigation into the incident is still active and anyone with more information is asked to call police at (203) 977-4712.
